Which style of photography will you choose for your wedding? There are a number of different wedding photography styles to choose from. When selecting a photographer, it is important to choose one that is comfortable with the wedding photography style you are looking for. There are a variety of different styles and approaches to wedding photography. Here are five of the most common.
Traditional Classic Portraits
This classic style of wedding photography is timeless like the wedding photos of generations before. The photographer is usually heavily involved in these types of shots; leading the wedding, directing the scene, pulling people aside and having them pose. These portrait style photos are heavily framed, with fine attention to detail and lighting. The photographer will often suggest specific backgrounds, poses, garments and accessories.
Candid Photo Journalism
At Redwood Studio we specialize in candid photo journalism. This wedding photography style is captured from a different view-point than traditional wedding photography, which centres around portraits and flawlessly lighting. In comparison, the photographer is not as heavily involved in the shots. There is more of an authentic, three-dimensional feel, as the subjects and important moments are caught in action. Events are shot with a documentary style, “fly on the wall” approach, with the photographer looking in on the scene from a distance. This wedding photography style is a good choice for those who are camera shy, as subjects do not have to pose and stand still for long periods of time. This style does not require special lighting or organizing of details either.
Fine Art
This approach goes above and beyond simply recording an event. The photographer often has a larger vision or concept in which they are looking to portray throughout the photos. Many fine art photographers are formally trained in art or photography. Fine art photography is beautiful, imaginative and original - the work is unique. It expresses the artist’s discernment, emotions and creative vision - often to be displayed and be viewed by others. It is traditionally shot using film, as it offers a different look and visual experience than digital. Redwood Studio does not specialize in this style of photography.
Fashion
Fashion
This fun and creative style of photography is dedicated to exhibiting apparel and other stylish articles and accessories. It is typically found in advertising and in the glossy pages of fashion magazines such as Vogue. Throughout the years, fashion photography has grown to establish a distinct expression, combining unique contrasts of clothing and accessories, alongside other bold, striking elements and settings.
